Blue Landscapes II: Discoveries
Pianist Robert Thies and Croatian flutist Damjan Krajacic share the story of Blue Landscapes
Internationally renowned as a concert pianist, Robert Thies remains an active performer in halls around the world. At the same time, he always had an interest in composing, improvisation, European jazz, and film music.
Croatian flutist, Damjan Krajacic draws inspiration from his Central European heritage and the music stemming from that region. He is also drawn to Latin jazz, Cuban music, and world music.
These two friends began improvising together, and the music of Blue Landscapes is a meeting ground of these various musical influences. The music is almost entirely acoustic, drawing on the natural palettes, but stretching the boundaries of the two instruments. Though the album was entirely improvised, the music has a clear structure, and each piece takes the listener on a journey.
"Beautiful, very deep, simple and sophisticated."
~ Patrick Kirst, film composer
